LA-based artist runnner has been making a name for himself as a prolific indie folk artist, with a string of fantastic releases culminating in his debut album, Like Dying Stars, We’re Reaching Out. His latest effort redefines what runnner can be, as he gears up to drop a twelve-track album of ambient music. However, his new album is not just a random collection of soundscapes. “I made one rule for myself while making this record and it was that I wasn’t allowed to record any new audio," explains runnner. "Every sound on this album is a repurposed stem from Like Dying Stars, We’re Reaching Out. I was allowed to pitch, flip, stretch, and chop anything I wanted, but everything had to begin from something already recorded for the last album.” Our personal favourite track from the album is ‘ten’; it’s a restrained, glitchy piece that makes use of time-stretching and reversing in a way that blurs the presence of its source material, despite that overwhelming sense of surreal familiarity. runnner’s upcoming ambient album is entitled Starsdust and it’s due for release on February 2nd, 2024 via Run For Cover Records. -Dan Peeke
